This territorial abbey is only located 15km from Martigny. It is the oldest monastic settlement in the Christian West to still be in operation, which has been permanently occupied. Located on the Via Francigena, the pilgrimage route leading to the tomb of St Peter in Rome.
The abbey is one of the most important monasteries established north of the Alps during the High Middle Ages.
